ENGELE-
The death of Mr. Alois "Louis" Engele, 91 years, occurred at his residence, St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Alois, or Louis as he was known to family and friends, was born on May 12, 1920 near Carmel to Julius and Mary (nee Huber) Engele. He grew up on the farm and attended Highgate School in the area. Louis loved the animals, especially the cows and the horses and helped out on the farm wherever he could. He also enjoyed helping his mother with her large vegetable garden. Upon his mom's passing, Louis lived with his brother Ted's family until 1975 when he moved to Humboldt. He lived in a group home for a short while and began working at Futuristic Industries. He then lived with Tony Brickner in a Supportive Living Program for about 30 years. Through Futuristic, he worked on the garbage truck for a number of years and also cut grass in St. Augustine Cemetery and some of the town parks. In his early years at Futuristic, he was in the Wood Working Department and then as he aged he moved over to the activity center where he did a variety of jobs. He also participated in the Seniors Exercise program on a weekly basis. Louis enjoyed the outdoor activities, camping trips and other outings that he was able to participate in as well as being a regular bowler. He was an all around helpful person and always had a smile on his face. Louis enjoyed time spent with and the visits from his nieces and nephews. He retired to St. Mary's Villa in January 2007, where he resided until the present. Louis will be lovingly remembered by his one sister and three brothers: Marie (John) Kramer of Calgary; Adolph Engele, Robert Engele and Wilfred (Dianne) Engele, all of Humboldt; his many nieces, nephews and their families as well as his extended family at Futuristic Industries. Louis was predeceased by his parents Julius and Mary Engele; sisters and brothers: Frances (Hans) Apoloney; Ann Turnbull; Johanna (Tony) Niebrugge; Leo (Helen) Engele and Theodore (Elsa) Engele and sister-in-law Anne Engele.
