OLEKSYN: Allan
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Allan Oleksyn on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at the Humboldt and District Hospital at the age of 72. Allan was born September 8, 1941, to Michael and Pauline Oleksyn of Meacham, SK, the second son in a family of three boys. He attended school in Meacham and went on to attend Saskatoon Teachers College and later obtained a B. Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. He began his teaching career at the age of 18 in a small rural one room school. The next year he moved to Balcarres, SK to teach. It was there that he met Carol. They were married on July 20, 1968, in Balcarres. Allan and Carol raised a family of three children: Lesley, Kristen and Michael. They lived in Flin Flon, Manitoba for several years and then moved to Humboldt in 1976 when Allan accepted a one year teaching position at Muenster. Following a couple of career changes Allan was employed at PCS Lanigan working underground, ending his career there as a miner operator. He retired in 1998 and spent his retirement years enjoying family times, collecting stamps, landscaping with rocks and keeping the yard in ship shape condition. Allan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years Carol (nee Kingdon) and their children: Lesley (Justin) Burtenshaw of Cambridge, UK, Kristen (Leon) Keller of Calgary and Michael Oleksyn of Melfort; grandchildren: Ainsley and Maxwell Keller and Anya and Laura Burtenshaw; brother Gary(Lorraine) Oleksyn and sister-in-law Gladys Oleksyn; Carol's brother and sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and two special aunts Alice Maxymyshyn of White Rock, BC and Zonia (Walter) Pidlisny of Saskatoon.
