SIEGEL: Alfred David
January 24, 1922 - September 26, 2013
The death of Alfred David Siegel of Bethany Pioneer Village in Middle Lake, SK, (formerly of the Muenster District) occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, September 26, 2013. He was 91 years of age. Alfred, the youngest child of Frederick and Emma (nee Nieman) Siegel, was born on January 24, 1922, at home on the family farm. In his youth, he attended Banner School. After the completion of the 8th grade, he along with his older brothers, Walter and Lawrence, began a lifelong career of farming. The three brothers worked together breaking the land, each contributing their own area of expertise. Alfred was an expert welder, having completed a welding course in Chicago. Neighbours would occasionally bring their broken machinery to him for repairs. As Alfred approached retirement, he slowly started renting out his land. He took his last crop off at the age of 72 in 1994. Alfred was a devout Christian and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, SK. Although his body slowed down in the last few years, his mind remained astute. Up until a few months ago, Alfred was proud of the fact he could solve the Rubik's cube in record breaking time. He was the last surviving member of his generation. Alfred is survived by his five children: Wendy, Dennis (Enid), Leila, Della and Margo (Aaron); grandchildren: Justin, Geoff (Emory), Nicole (Jordan), Bridget and Megan (Steven); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Emma (nee Nieman) Siegel, and all of his siblings and their spouses: Walter (Millie), Lydia, Lawrence (Molly), and Laura (Otto). Cremation has taken place. In respect of Alfred's wishes, a private family graveside service was held at Humboldt Public Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Robert Grout. The urnbearer was Wendy Siegel. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Humboldt, SK, or Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
