ENGELE: Adolph Henry

The death of Mr. Adolph Henry Engele of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, October 3, 2013. He was 100 years of age. Adolph was born on February 1, 1913, to Julius and Mary (nee Huber) Engele on their homestead in the Carmel district. He was raised on the family farm and attended Highgate School where he completed Grade 5. Adolph helped out on the family farm until leaving at a young age to work as a hired hand for several farmers in the Fulda area. In the winter months, Adolph found work in logging camps in Northern Saskatchewan and Ontario and at the Sheritt Gold Mine in Northern Manitoba. After the death of his father, Adolph returned home to help on the family farm where he farmed with his brothers for numerous years. Adolph continued to farm in the Carmel and Englefeld areas until his retirement in the early 1990s and settled in Humboldt. In February of 2012, he moved to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK and in August of 2012 moved to St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt, SK. In Adolph's early years, he enjoyed curling and fishing and in the later years he enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbours. Adolph is survived by two brothers and one sister: Robert Engele of Humboldt, SK; Marie(John) Kramer of Calgary, AB; Wilfred(Dianne) Engele of Humboldt, SK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Annie(Siermachesky) Engele; parents, Julius and Mary(nee Huber) Engele; siblings, Frances(Hans) Apoloney, Johanna(Tony) Niebrugge, Leo(Helen) Engele, Alois Engele, Alvin Engele, Theodore(Elsa) Engele, Ann Turnbull, and two siblings in infancy. A Prayer Service was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK, on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. presided by Nestor Trach and organist, Denise Germaine. Scripture readers were Dianne Engele and Wayne Reineke and eulogy was delivered by Kenneth Engele. The Funeral Mass was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK, on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Julianna Engele-Lueke, crossbearer; Kenneth Engele and Loriann Wuchner, scripture readers; Thelma Wempe, intentions; Marie Aubin, organist; Julianna and Owen Engele-Lueke, and Rebecca and Liam Reineke, giftbearers; Lucille Niebrugge and Loriann Wuchner, communion ministers; and Jeanette Engele and Roxann Therres, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Adolph's life." Active pallbearers were Aaron Engele, Ken Engele, Reynold Niebrugge, Jason Engele, Albert Wempe and Wayne Reineke. Interment followed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Carmel, SK.
