BATTLEFORD - The council of the Town of Battleford approved the purchase of a new 'automated side loading refuse collection vehicle' at their March 20 meeting, for 2024.
After reviewing the price range, specs, service, parts, delivery time and availability, the public works department decided that the new truck would be a good fit for Battleford.
The new truck is however $14,556.56 over the $425,000 approved 2023 budget, which Eric Bilanski, public works manager spoke on.
"The delivery is slated for 2024, thereby, the additional financing will be included in our 2024 capital budget," Bilanski said.
He also noted that after delivery of the truck in 2024, the department has one year to decide if they'd like to purchase a warranty, with the cost of that warranty then included in the 2025 budget.
"Nowadays, I think if we do have any problem, it's well worth it," Bilanski siad
"...I'm glad that we're keeping our fleet turning over so we don't get stuck with a bunch of dilapidated trucks," Councillor Judy Pruden said.
Purchased from Superior North America, an American company, the price is unlikely to change unless there is a dramatic fluctuation in the Canadian dollar.
Bilanksi said that they'd be looking at selling the old truck when the time comes.
"Possibly ... we do have a lot of hours on there, we've really gotten our money's worth out of that truck."
