THE BATTLEFORDS — The Saskatchewan Seniors’ Fitness Association 55+ games held in the Battlefords June 11-14 included a 537 competitors. While some participants may have been local, there were many others who travelled in for competition.
The influx of people in the Battlefords for both these games and the recent provincial fire chiefs’ conference held contribute to economic spinoffs for the community. While these two events are but two activities recently held in the Battlefords, summer often brings a busier time with ball games and other summer events and activities hosted which attract tourists or out-of-town visitors, or people who stop on their way through to the lake.
Candace Toma, public and intergovernmental relations co-ordinator for the City of North Battleford, said, “It certainly brings an economic benefit to the city when events like this take place, and it is an opportunity to showcase some of our amenities, be it recreational facilities, local restaurants and retail spaces, or our hotels, to people who otherwise may not be spending time in North Battleford.”
