THE BATTLEFORDS - A man has been sentenced in the Court of King's Bench in Saskatoon related to a North Battleford online sale that ended in a robbery.
Kirklynd Aubichon, 28, previously pleaded guilty to robbery with an imitation firearm.
RCMP previously reported the North Battleford RCMP responded to the report of a robbery shortly before 1 p.m. on Sept. 25, 2022. The victim arranged an online sale of property with an unknown male. The suspect changed the location for the exchange at the last moment to the area of 108 Street and 9 Avenue in North Battleford. When the victim arrived, he was approached by a lone male with a firearm, who robbed the victim of a cell phone and money before fleeing. The victim was not physically injured.
Aubichon also previously entered guilty pleas to the following separate charges: possess a prohibited firearm he didn't hold a licence for, on or about Sept. 29, 2022 in North Battleford; possess a prohibited firearm while prohibited on or about Sept. 29, 2022 in North Battleford; possess a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization on or about July 24, 2021, at or near Saskatoon; and fail to comply with a release condition at or on June 15, 2022 in North Battleford.
For the robbery in September 2022, Justice Richard Danyliuk said in his sentencing decision that an armed robbery "constitutes a serious personal injury offence."
Overall, he said he believes that Aubichon does have an opportunity to redeem himself in the future.
"For him, the answer lies within," the judge said. "He must seek and accept help. He must genuinely want to travel a different path. However, his crimes are serious and bear serious consequence."
In total, for all the above charges, Aubichon was sentenced to a global sentence of 1,945 days or about five years and four months in custody. Less time already served, he has 749 days left in custody.
He must also submit a DNA sample and is ordered to a lifetime firearms prohibition.
