RED PHEASANT CREE NATION - A man has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference following a police investigation.

On Feb. 12, the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received a referral from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding videos that met the definition of child pornography being sold on a social media platform.

An investigation began immediately – led by ICE and the North Battleford General Investigation Section (GIS) of the RCMP, as part of Project Steel. As a result, a suspect was identified and on Feb. 20, the RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team arrested an adult male at a residence on Red Pheasant Cree Nation (approximately 33 kilometres south of North Battleford).

A 25-year-old man, from Red Pheasant Cree Nation, has been charged with:

  • Sexual assault;
  • Sexual interference;
  • Invitation to sexual touching;
  • Indecent act;
  • Make child pornography;
  • Distribute child pornography;
  • Possess child pornography.

He first appeared in court on Feb. 21. He will make his next appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 7.

At this time, the investigation has determined there to be one victim. Their identity is known and Victim Services and other supports are being provided to them. The investigation remains ongoing – including identifying whether there are any additional victims.

The interaction between the accused and the victim took place at the school on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. The accused was enrolled at adult education courses through the school.

If you are a survivor of sexual assault, or if you have information about a crime of a sexual nature that may assist an ongoing investigation, contact the Saskatchewan RCMP at 310-RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or .
