Man facing charges in death of Richard 'Dick' Buck heading to trial

NORTH BATTLEFORD - A preliminary hearing has concluded for a man facing charges in the death of Richard 'Dick' Buck.

Clarence Ryan Buck, 30, is facing a charge of manslaughter in the case.

In the preliminary hearing at North Battleford Provincial Court the judge determined there was enough evidence to proceed to trial.

The details of the preliminary hearing remain under a publication ban.

Clarence Buck will now head to a trial at the Court of King's Bench in Battleford.

He has elected a judge and jury trial, with the date still to be set.

According to police, on July 6, 2023 at approximately 1 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of an assault at a home in Meota. Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined an altercation occurred between two men. One of them, Richard Buck, 56, was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious. He later died in hospital. Police say the accused and victim are related and known to one another.
