MAIDSTONE — Maidstone Gully Multiple 4-H Club held their monthly general meeting Jan. 8 at Waseca Community Centre. The club hosted their Christmas party at Milleton Hall Dec. 8, enjoying an evening of games, crafts, activities and snacks. Dec. 14 and 15, some members helped ring bells for the Salvation Army Kettle campaign. Demos at the December meeting were by Coffee Club and Cloverbuds. Demos at the January meeting were by Small Engines and Movies and Munchies. Two teams competed in District 35 4-H curling which was held at the Maidstone Curling Club on Jan. 3. The junior team fought hard in the tiebreaker game, taking it to an extra end, but they were unable to pull out the win. Congratulations to the senior team who will be heading to regionals in Radisson Saturday, Jan. 20. Due to the cold weather 4-H activity kit day was moved to Jan. 26 to coincide with a club potluck. Watch for members who will be out selling Little Caesar Pizza kits starting Feb. 1. Communications Day will be held Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. MST at Milleton Hall.
The local 4-H senior curling team is a combination of players from Maidstone — Mickey Blyth, Jayce Myer, Kayden Tuplin — and from Hillmond — Hanna Hougham and Ken Hougham. We wish them luck as they head to regionals in Radisson this weekend.
Despite frigid weather, Radisson Wheatkings travelled to Maidstone to face off against the senior Jets Saturday, Jan. 13. They took the game 5-2, extending the Jets’ streak to six losses. The next senior Jets game is Jan. 19 in Maidstone against Perdue Pirates.
Minor Hockey Day is Saturday, Jan. 20 at Maidstone Arena. Here’s the schedule (all times are MST): 8 a.m. U9/Lloyd.311; 10 a.m. U11/Debden; noon U13/Edam; 2:30 p.m. U15/Leoville; 5 p.m. U18/Spiritwood (U5/U7 play during the first intermission); 7:30 p.m. senior Jets/Neilburg. All day: progressive 50/50, Plinko, raffles, prize table $1 per ticket or bring non-perishable items (not expired) to be donated to the local food bank and get one ticket per item or 15 tickets for 10 items. Prize table draws will be made during the U18 game.
