Care facility worker's sexual assault case adjourned

NORTH BATTLEFORD - The case for a woman facing several charges including sexual assault following alleged reports at a care facility in Wilkie was back in court Monday.

The accused, whose name is protected under a publication ban, had her appearance waived at North Battleford provincial court.

She is currently out of custody. 

Defence attorney Randy Kirkham said he would now be representing the accused.

The Crown prosecution confirmed the Crown is ready to set the trial dates.

The woman was originally expected to make an election for trial, on Monday.

Instead the accused is now expected to make her election at her next scheduled court appearance on Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

Police previously reported that on Feb. 28, 2024, Wilkie RCMP received a report of multiple physical and sexual assaults that occurred at a care facility in Wilkie.

After investigating, police determined that between January 2023 and February 2024, four adult residents of the facility were allegedly assaulted, sexually assaulted and/or threatened by a female staff member. She has not worked at the facility since February 2024. 

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old woman from Wilkie was arrested on Feb. 29, 2024, and charged with: four counts of assault; three counts of sexual assault; one count of sexual assault with a weapon; and one count of uttering threats.
