April 29 marks the first "Hazardous Waste Day' of 2023 for North Battleford residents.

According to a press release from the City of North Battleford, April 29 will mark the first ‘Hazardous Waste Day’ of 2023, giving residents an opportunity to drop off hazardous household materials free of charge.

Residents of North Battleford can drop off their items at the City’s Public Works shop at 11112-6th Avenue between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 29. No commercial loads will be accepted.

“It’s really beneficial to ensure that residents are not just pouring hazardous materials or waste down their drains, dumping materials into the ground, into our sewer systems or throwing items into the trash,” commented the city’s assistant director of operations, Jeff Blanchard.

A complete list of the materials accepted for disposal during the waste day can be foundA few examples include:

  • Aerosols, adhesives or automotive items
  • Cleaners, corrosives or fuels
  • Mercury, oxidizers or oil and gas mixtures
  • Position, solvents or paint without labels.

“Like other municipalities, the City of North Battleford has hosted these events over the last number of years during the spring and fall, times when people are most likely to be cleaning out their homes, garages and sheds,” Blanchard commented, adding that improper disposal of hazardous items can be serious threats to human health and the environment.

The city reminds the public that the Waste Management Facility Eco-Centre accepts oils unmixed with fuel or water, antifreeze and car batteries for safe disposal year-round. They also accept tires, electrical ballasts and fluorescent bulbs during regular hours of operation year-round.
