NORTH BATTLEFORD - A man facing a charge in the death of David Lapointe is seeking another defence lawyer to represent his case.
Nolan Bird, from Saskatoon, who is in custody, appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 25.
The accused was facing a charge of manslaughter in the case. On Jan. 20, 2025, Bird instead pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.
He was originally expected to be sentenced on March 25.
Instead Bird's lawyer, Aleida Oberholzer, said the defence is withdrawing for "ethical reasons."
The accused said he will re-apply for a new lawyer through Legal Aid.
The case has been adjourned to April 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Nolan Bird was arrested in December 2023 by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) after a warrant on a manslaughter charge was issued for his arrest.
Lapointe’s body was found after police were called to a home on the 1600 block of 102nd Street in North Battleford on March 13, 2022.
