The Yorkton RawTec Maulers of the SMAAAHL currently sit in seventh place in the 12-team midget ‘AAA’ league at Christmas break with a 13-11-4 record for 30 points, three points back of the Prince Albert Mintos (14-8-5, 33 points) and four back of the Battlefords Stars (17-9-0, 34 points).

The Tisdale Trojans lead the SMAAAHL with a 20-3-2 record and 42 points, closely followed by the Regina Pat Canadians (20-5-1) with 41 points. The Notre Dame Hounds (18-5-0) and Saskatoon Contacts (17-8-2) round out the top four in a tie for third and fourth place with 36 points each.

The RawTec Maulers sit four points up on the Moose Jaw Generals (11-13-4, 26 points) and nine clear of ninth place Beardy’s (10-16-1). The Saskatoon Blazers (7-20-0) and Swift Current Legionnaires (6-20-2) are tied for 10th and 11th with 14 points while the Notre Dame Argos hold down last place with a 4-18-0 record and eight points.

Rookie twins Carson and McKenzie Welke, as well as fellow Mauler rookie Cole Keenleyside lead the Maulers in scoring at the Christmas break with 18 points. McKenzie has 10 goals and eight assists, his 10 goals being a team high, while McKenzie has five goals and 13 helpers. Keenleyside has found the back of the net four times well setting up 14 other goals. All three are tied for 39th in league scoring with Tisdale’s Parker McCormick.

Drayson Skulmoski is the highest scoring returning Mauler. The Moosomin native has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 26 games.

Carter Phair has seen the most action between the pipes for the RawTec Maulers so far this season. The 6’4”, 165-pound Phair has posted a 9-8-3 record with a goals against average of 2.82 and a save percentage of .920 while his backup Rylan Palchewich has done well in limited action, posting a 4-2-1 record with a 3.46 GAA and a save percentage of .905.

True to their position in the SMAAAHL standings, the RawTec Maulers have scored 86 goals and surrendered 94, both seventh overall in the league.

The RawTec Maulers have 16 games remaining in the regular season, nine in January and seven in February. Nine of the games are at home and nine are on the road.

The next action for the Yorkton RawTec Maulers will be Thursday, January 8 when they host the league leading Tisdale Trojans for what is sure to be a hard hitting, hotly contested affair.
