This past weekend the Yorkton Gardon Crushers of the 麻豆视频 Saskatchewan Female Bantam A Hockey League attended the Regina Female Challenge. There were six bantam A division with teams from Weyburn, Winnipeg, Leroy, Yorkton and Regina (2). A total of 58 teams attended the tournament in all divisions from Novice to midget AA.
The first game the Crushers played was against the Winnipeg Rockets. The Crushers skated away with a 9-0 victory.
聽The next game on Friday night was against the Regina Blues and Yorkton came away with 1-0 win.
On Saturday morning versus the Regina Cougars, the Crushers played what head coach Fred Schrader called their best game of the tournament and finished off the round robin portion with a 6-2 victory, pushing their record to 3-0.
聽The semi-final was on Saturday night, where the Crushers played against Weyburn. They battled back from a 2-0 deficit with Sara Auchstaetter tying the game with less than four minutes left to send the game into overtime. Reauna Blight scored the overtime winner, securing the win for the Crushers.
聽In Sunday鈥檚 final, the Gardon Crushers faced the Leroy Fillies. The teams exchanged goals throughout the game, and the Crushers had to battle back again. They tied the game at three late in the third period with Breanne Brenner鈥檚 shot from the point. In overtime, the Crushers controlled most of the play in the Leroy end but were unable to score sending the game to a shootout. 聽
聽Haley Schrader made a sensational save to stop the first Leroy shooter.聽 Next up was the Crushers first shooter, Shaelyn Myers, who put her shot past the Leroy goaltender. Haley Schrader had a strong shootout performance by stopping all 3 Leroy Shooters.
聽Schrader said the tournament saw strong performances by all players with key goals or plays being made throughout the tournament.
鈥淚f I had to highlight (anyone) Shaelyn Myers, Reauna Blight and Mia Chretien were strong up front, Brooke Schwartz played some of her best hockey at defence and Schrader was solid in net,鈥 said Schrader.
The next regular season game for the Crushers will be on Satuday, Dec. 10 against Weyburn in Theodore.
