The Yorkton Bantam UCT Terriers improved their 2014/15 SBAAHL record to 16-1-0 this past weekend with back-to-back wins over Saskatoon teams, shutting out the Generals on Saturday 7-0 before crushing the Bandits 8-2 on Sunday.
The two wins give Yorkton an eight point lead over a pair of 麻豆视频 Division second place teams, the Prairie Storm and Regina Monarchs, who both have 24 points on the season.
Estevan sits fourth with 18 points while the Regina Aces and Melville Millionaires are tied for fifth place with 16 points each.
Sask Valley continues to lead the North Division with 29 points while Prince Albert is second with 24 and the Saskatoon Stallions and North East Wolfpack are tied for third with 21 points respectively.
Carson Miller led all UCT Terrier players in scoring during Saturday鈥檚 7-0 win over the Saskatoon Generals. Miller had three goals to go along with one assist in the game while his linemates Kaeden (1 goal, two assists) and Keenan Taphorn (two assists) had three and two points each.
Three other UCT Terriers had multipoint efforts on Saturday as tenacious forward Brett Kemp picked up a goal and assist, as did blueliner Kaleb Bulych. Aiden Bulych, Kaleb鈥檚 younger brother, also picked up two points with a pair of assists while Kaedan Korczak and Keanan Sperling had one point, Korczak a goal and Sperling a helper.
Starting netminder Nolan Maier picked up his first shutout of the season in just his third game, stopping all nine shots he faced between the UCT Terrier net.
鈥淚 thought we played very well today,鈥� offered UCT Terrier head coach Graham Garrett on the performance of his team. 鈥淲e moved the puck better than we have all year in all three zones. I thought we protected our net a little better today and everybody had a good, strong effort.鈥�
The Yorkton UCT Terrier offence was its usual dominant self just a day later, hammering the visiting Saskatoon Bandits into submission in the form of an 8-2 drubbing.
Kemp led the Terrier offence on the afternoon with a two goal, two assist performance while Miller and Zach McIntyre both had two goal, one assist games.
Korczak and Kaeden Taphorn also found the back of the net for Yorkton while Saskatoon鈥檚 two goals came off the sticks of Carter Rain and team leading scorer Connor Zary.
The UCT Terriers literally hammered the Bandits into submission, dominating the Saskatoon team all game long with their physicality; something that the Bandits took offense too. 鈥淚 thought again that we controlled the play, moved the puck extremely well. It got a little silly but we were driving the net, which is something that we need to do more of,鈥� said Garrett. 鈥淚 thought we took the puck to the net hard and they reacted how they reacted and the refs called it how they seen it.
鈥淲e鈥檙e not going to stop because we need to start getting pucks to the net and getting bodies to the net and getting traffic on goaltenders and I thought we did that well today.鈥�
Next action
The next action for the Yorkton UCT Terriers will be this weekend when they play three games in three nights. They鈥檒l first be in Saskatoon to do battle with the Stallions (9-6-3) before moving on to Macklin to take on the North Division cellar dwellers, the West Central Wheat Kings (3-14-0).
They鈥檒l wrap up their road trip on Sunday with a morning game against the 麻豆视频 Division basement team, Swift Current Kabos Raiders (3-11-0).
