Yorkton Terrier fans received an early Christmas present as their team won their final two games before the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s seasonal break.
The first win came Friday evening at the Farrell Agencies Arena in the city.
Jordan Evans and Adam Santoro gave the home team a 2-0 lead over visiting Notre Dame, and Santoro’s goal at the 18-minute mark would prove the eventual game-winner.
Andrew Cummings would cut the lead in half for the Hounds 3:25 into the second, but a powerplay marker by Kailum Gervais would restore a two-goal margin for the Terriers headed to the third.
Thirty-seconds into the final period Corwin Stevely would make it 4-1, and Paul Savage would add one late for a 5-1 Terrier win.
Jakon Severson was in the Yorkton net facing 24-shots for the win, while Darin Fox took the loss facing 37.
Saturday the Terriers would head to Weyburn for action.
Aidan Teilborg would give the Red Wings a lead with the only goal of the first period, a power player marker at 16:50.
The Terriers would respond with two unanswered second period markers to take a 2-1 lead. McKenzie Welke and Evans were the marksmen.
Jayden Syrota would force overtime with the tying goal for the Wings at 17:08 of the third period.
The OT would be a short one as Jordan McCausland scored for the Terriers at 1:16 for the 3-2 win.
Matt Kustra was in the Terrier net for the win facing 36-shots.
Carter Phair took the loss for Weyburn having faced 25-shots.
The two wins gives the Terriers a record of 11-20-1-1 headed to the league break for 24 points, and third spot in the Viterra Division, with a five-point bulge over last place Melville.
Weyburn sits atop the Viterra with 49 points, with Estevan second with 35.
