It was a successful weekend for the Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the SSMHL Midget ‘AA’ division.

The Kinsmen Terriers picked up three of a possible four points, doubling up the second place Notre Dame Hounds 6-3 at home on Saturday before skating to a 2-2 draw with the Regina Capitals on the road on Sunday. “That was our goal; we wanted to get more than two points and we accomplished that,” offered Kinsmen Terrier head coach Grant Ottenbreit. “Four would have been nice, but we said we wanted to get three or four and we got the three so when you go on the road for the second game of a weekend that’s still good.”

Saturday’s game saw the Terriers outskate a talented Hounds team for the entire 60 minutes with rookie Ashton Shewchuk netting his first career midget ‘AA’ hattrick while Carter Lake, Luke Schappert and Josh Rohatynsky also scored in the win.

Russian import Artem Kusov and Kane Altwasser scored in the loss for the Hounds, while Yorkton goaltender Dakota Berezowski picked up his fifth win of the season.

Sunday saw Schappert score both Yorkton goals in a 2-2 tie with the Capitals that Ottenbreit felt should have gone the way of the dogs. “We outplayed them. I think we dominated them pretty much the whole game but we ran into some officiating that was kind of questionable,” suggested the Kinsmen Terrier head coach. “The penalty minutes didn’t end up too far apart, but there were some things that were called that, as a coach I’d wish they would just let the kids play instead of throwing them in the box. They seemed to get some breaks on some icing calls as well. I wasn’t happy with the officiating but I was happy with the effort that the guys brought.”

The next action for the Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers will be this Friday and Saturday. Friday the Kinsmen Terriers host the Notre Dame Argos for a 7:30p.m. start at the Farrell Agencies Arena and Saturday the Regina Rangers come to town for a 2:00p.m. start at the Kinsmen Arena.
