The Yorkton Kinsmen ‘AA’ Terriers of the SSMHL Midget Division hosted three home games this past weekend in Yorkton.
The team currently holds a 16-4-2 record, putting them in third place of the thirteen teams in their league. This gives them a total of 34 points, just one point away from the second place spot.
On Friday night, the Kinsmen Terriers faced the Weyburn Streamline Oilfield Wings – the top team in the league. Yorkton fell 6-4 after a hard-fought game.
In the first period, the Kinsmen Terriers were on the scoreboard first when Ashton Shewchuk scored on a power play. The assists came from Colby Vranai and Reid Arnold.
Weyburn was able to score to tie the game later in the first, and that’s where the score remained for the first period.
In the second period, Yorkton scored first again about halfway through. Tyler Shankowsky got the goal, with the assist coming from Troy Bryksa. Again, the Wings were able to retaliate and score to tie it up. But with about 30 seconds remaining in the period, Carter Lake scored for the Kinsmen Terriers to give them a 3-2 lead going into the third period. Ashton Shewchuk had the assist.
The third period started, and Weyburn was able to tie it up again at 3.
Less than a minute later, Colby Vranai scored for the Kinsmen Terriers, with assists coming from Reid Arnold and Ashton Shewchuk, to bring the score to 4-3. But from there, the Wings were able to rack up another three goals, pushing them ahead for a 6-4 victory.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Kinsmen Terriers hosted a two-game series against the Swift Current K-Motel Broncos.
The first game, held on Saturday at the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena, ended in a 3-3 tie between the two teams. Goals from the Kinsmen Terriers came from Jake Huska in the first period, and Colby Vranai and Reid Arnold in the second period.
On Sunday, the two faced off again in what would be a shutout for the Kinsmen Terriers. The final score of the game was 6-0.
The six goals came from Carter Lake, Vaughn Wilgosh, Luke Schappert, Ashton Shewchuk, Reid Arnold and Jordan Evans.
The Kinsmen Terriers play one more game before they break for Christmas. They hit the road to Regina to face the Regina Capitals on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
