The City of Regina has issued a statement confirming funding for Carmichael Outreach for this winter.

REGINA - The City of Regina and the provincial government have confirmed funding for a warming space at Carmichael Outreach this winter.

According to a news release the City has committed $100,000 earmarked in the budget in support of their Cold Weather Strategy, while the Ministry of Social Services is providing a one-time $300,000 grant.

The city states that the funds "will enable Carmichael Outreach to continue delivering the life-saving, overnight support they delivered last winter." The warming space will operate to accommodate 80 persons in need of a safe space to get out of the extreme weather this winter.

"Carmichael Outreach expresses heartfelt gratitude to the City of Regina and the Government of Saskatchewan for their generous funding of the warming space, which was made possible through the invaluable support of the Warm Welcome Coalition," sod Tyler Gelsinger, Executive Director of Carmichael Outreach in a statement.

“The City of Regina is grateful to partner with the Government of Saskatchewan in supporting this additional warming space for our community,” said Mayor Sandra Masters in a statement.

“We are committed to continually improving access and services for residents during cold weather events.”

"The Government of Saskatchewan is contributing $300,000 to support the City of Regina's Cold Weather Strategy in delivering this critical service for people experiencing homelessness in our community,” said Social Services Minister Gene Makowsky in a statement.

“This collaboration will ensure vulnerable individuals in Regina have access to a warm, safe space along with connections to essential supports during this coming winter."
