REGINA - Regina Police Service has arrested a 27 year-old female after she fled at a high rate of speed from a Regina police traffic stop.
Both the aerial support unit as well as the canine unit got involved in apprehending the woman on Tuesday night, Oct. 3. The individual now faces the following charges: Operate Conveyance Dangerous To Public, Obstruct Peace Officer, Escape Lawful Custody/Unlawfully At Large, and Fail To Comply With Condition of Release Order. She is also charged in connection to an incident on Sept. 29 of Assault With A Weapon and Fail To Comply With Condition of Release Order.
She made her first appearance in Provincial Court Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 4.
According to Regina police, on Oct. 3 at around 7:25 p.m., members of RPS Aerial Support Unit located a vehicle related to a recent investigation into an assault with a weapon. The aerial support officers notified ground units of the vehicle’s location, and police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Albert Street near 1st Ave.
Police say a patrol officer approached the drivers’ side of the vehicle, confirmed the identity of the driver and informed the female driver she was under arrest for assault with a weapon, at which point she drove away at a high rate of speed. The aerial support unit then followed the vehicle as it drove down Albert Street. Once the vehicle was parked, patrol officers were guided to its location, and officers as well as the Canine Unit went to the 700 block of Robinson Street.
Aerial support notified those officers that the suspect had exited the vehicle and was hiding nearby. The canine unit found the individual and she was taken into police custody; police say the police dog did not make contact with the suspect.
