REGINA — Observations of a suspicious vehicle have led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man who is facing theft-related charges.

At approximately 5 p.m. Jan. 11, an officer in the RPS Canine Unit was patrolling in the Eastview area when he observed a truck driving up and down back alleys in a suspicious manner. The truck was transporting a dirt bike in its cargo area.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but, rather than pull over, the truck accelerated away from the police vehicle. The officer notified the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) and they began to track the vehicle from the air.

Police say the ASU followed the suspect vehicle onto Park Street. From there the vehicle made its way to the Ring Road, exited onto Victoria Avenue and pulled into a parking stall of a business in the 1800 Block of Victoria Avenue. ASU officers observed the suspect driver get out of the vehicle with a young child. The two walked to a nearby vehicle and hid behind it, according to RPS.

ASU directed officers on the ground to the suspect and young child. The suspect driver was arrested without further incident. Both the truck he was driving and the dirt bike were found to be stolen.
