REGINA - The Saskatchewan Party has a candidate in place to take on the Saskatchewan United Party’s Nadine Wilson in the 2024 provincial election.
The Sask Party confirmed that Eric Schmalz has been acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party nominee for Saskatchewan Rivers for the 2024 election.
Schmalz has been Reeve for the RM of Prince Albert since 2019 and previously served as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police before joining his family’s business.
“It’s an honour to have the support of the members in this great constituency,” Schmalz said in a news release. “I am excited to join the Saskatchewan Party team and start speaking with voters about our plan to grow the province.”
The election in Saskatchewan Rivers is expected to be competitive with Wilson expected to run again as the incumbent for the Sask United Party. Previously Wilson had won the seat under the Sask Party banner, before sitting as an independent and becoming leader of the Sask United Party last year.
The Sask Party has recently nominated a flurry of other candidates in recent weeks. Among those who have been nominated are David Buckingham in Saskatoon Westview, Ryan Domotor in Cut Knife-Turtleford, Lori Carr in Estevan-Big Muddy, Jeremy Harrison in Meadow Lake, Muhammad Fiaz in Regina Pasqua and Lisa Lambert in Saskatoon Churchill-Wildwood. Premier Scott Moe was the first Sask Party candidate nominated to run in 2024, seeking re-election in Rosthern-Shellbrook.
