REGINA - The twelve newest recruits of the Regina Police Service have now officially been sworn in.
They were sworn in at a ceremony Thursday at the new community centre in the Municipal Justice Building in Heritage neighbourhood. Attending were dignitaries including Mayor Sandra Masters, and the new Regina Chief of Police Farooq Hassan Sheikh who administered the oaths of secrecy and the oath of police to the new members.
This is recruit class number 88 for Regina Police Service, which it was noted was a number signifying “great success, abundance and prosperity.” They have already gone through a rigorous selection process that tested them on fitness and other measures, resulting in the final 12 selected.
The new constables will start their training next week, Jan. 8, at Saskatchewan Police College at the University of Regina. They will spend 21 weeks there training in all of the skills required to be a police officer.
After graduation, the recruits will start field training with the Regina Police Service under the guidance of experienced police members.
