Flag-raising, activities set for Weyburn’s Pride Week

A number of activities have been set for Weyburn’s Pride Week, to run on June 4-10, including a flag-raising at City Hall on June 5 at noon.

Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy proclaimed June 4-10 as Pride Week in Weyburn, at the May 23 council meeting, along with members of the Weyburn Arts Council. They include chair Tasha Hill, city rep Regan Lanning, Krista Klemmer, Chris Christie, Linda Aitken and Kristyn Storey. A full week of activities is planned, including painting of crosswalks at a downtown intersection, crafts, and a flag-raising on Monday, June 5 at noon at City Hall.

WEYBURN – A number of activities have been set for Weyburn’s Pride Week, to run on June 4-10, including a flag-raising at City Hall on Monday, June 5 at noon.

To help kick off the week, members of the Weyburn Arts Council will be painting rainbow colours on the crosswalks downtown at the intersection of Third Street and Coteau Avenue over the weekend.

The Arts Council was approved for the painting by city council, and council also officially proclaimed Pride Week at a recent meeting. The paint for this project is being provided by CUPE Local 90.

Residents will have the opportunity to make a friendship bracelet on Sunday, June 4, from 1-3 p.m. at the Weyburn Art Gallery.

A session in Pride print-making will be held on June 5 at the Credit Union Spark Centre from 5-7 p.m.

A “Kindness Rocks” class, Pride edition, will be held on Tuesday, June 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Weyburn Public Library.

A class in macramé rainbow will held on June 7 at the Collabartive Studios downtown, from 5-8 p.m. with Knotty Pine Macramé.

You can make your own Pride pronoun button at the library on Thursday, June 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A class in beaded Pride keychains will be held on Friday, June 9 at the CU Spark Centre from 5-7 p.m. In addition, take-and-make kits for this project will be available from the Weyburn Public Library.

The final activity for the week will be the showing of three short documentary films, along with desserts, on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the Weyburn Public Library. The desserts are being supplied by Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Newcomer Services.
