REGINA - The City of Regina have released a statement on what caused the two fatal house fires that happened this month on Rae St. and Winnipeg Street.

Regarding the Dec. 9 fire on the 800 block of Rae Street, Regina Fire and Protective Services investigators have determined that the fire was caused by tampering with electrical distribution equipment and overloading an electrical device.

Regina Fire says it is working in collaboration with the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan - Electrical Division and Regina Police Service on the further investigation.

Regarding the fire this week at a house on the 2100 block of Winnipeg Street, fire investigators have determined that the cause of that fire was incendiary, or intentionally set.

Regina Fire says it is working in collaboration with Regina Police Service to support the ongoing investigation. They say that all information has been turned over to the Regina Police Service, and there will be no further comment from Regina Fire or from the City of Regina as further investigations are underway.

Two people were found deceased following the Rae Street fire on Dec. 9; two people were also found deceased at the scene of the Winnipeg St. fire.
