Unity Lions Club Christmas trees were available at the Unity Beaver Lumber Store, and a street sale was planned for the Bank of Montreal corner.

The Fred Box rink, which included Fred’s son Terry, and Ed and Connie Houser, started off their curling season with an eight-ender.

The Unity Chamber of Commerce encouraged businesses to stay open until 9 p.m. on Thursdays in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Health Minister Walter Smishek said a conference was being organized for January 1975, to address the problem of nurse recruitment, a “problem which appears to centre around not being able to keep enough nurses in the active labour force.” Saskatchewan had one nurse for every 145 residents. Ways to reduce waiting lists was also discussed at the Saskatchewan Hospital Association meeting.

20 years ago

The Saskatchewan Securities Commission and the Prairie Springs Mineral Spa board had set a final deadline of Dec. 31 for securing an equity investor. Over $2 million had been raised locally in Wilkie and area for the $12 million project.

The foursome of Karen Fell, Wanda Heitt, Barb Brown and Kathy Thompson won the Royal Purple Provincial Curling Championships and would be heading to nationals in Swan River, Man., in March 2005.

Andrew Herrick won the Heart and Soul and Outstanding Offensive Player awards at the Unity Warriors football awards banquet. He was also named MVP.

Plans were in place for a second outdoor rink in Unity, to be constructed on an empty town lot beside the Royal Purple Park on the west side of town.
