Reward 4-H Beef Club held their Achievement Day, with Myrna Briggs MC for the afternoon and Mr. Conrad Keifer as judge. Brian Haughian had the grand champion. He also won best Angus steer at the regional show in Kerrobert the following day. Greg Krupka, who was reserve champion in Reward, won best Hereford heifer at Kerrobert.

Fourteen cars of a westbound CP train carrying potash derailed near Adanac, near the same place a similar derailment had occurred a year earlier.

Wilkie School Unit board accepted tenders for the supply of school bus tires and tubes from: at Cut Knife, Finley’s Auto and Farm Supply Ltd.; at Unity, Delta Co-op Associations Ltd.; and at Wilkie, Wilkie Co-op Assn’ Ltd.

Three water breaks in the Town of Wilkie drained the water tower and residents were without water for several hours. With the reservoirs still full and quick work by town crews and Brock Wangler of Wangler Construction, most of the town was supplied again before noon.

Davin Heintz of Luseland was signed by the Calgary Flames, despite not being able to participate in a free agent workout due to a foot injury. Flames coach and general manager told Heintz to show up to training camp in shape and ready to work.

Conservative Gerry Ritz was re-elected to the House of Commons for the Battlefords – Lloydminster constituency for his third term. Nationally, the Paul Martin Liberals were reduced to a minority government.
