There were smiles all around, as Plainsview Credit Union hosted a free 'Back to School BBQ' for the students and staff of Kipling School on Wednesday, Sept. 13th.
Event organizer Pennie Kimery says that the BBQ was meant to be a celebration for students and staff.
“We're really doing this to treat everyone to a good lunch – and to help everybody at the school celebrate the start of another school year.â€
Plainsview CEO Fintan Ryan, along with several of the staff from the Kipling Branch of Plainsview were busy cooking up hamburgers well before the noon-hour bell rang. Ryan comments that:
“Events like this are a wonderful way for us to get out and be an active member of the community. It's good too for us to have an opportunity to meet with the young people here in Kipling.â€
Jennifer Doell, who is a staff member at Kipling School, points out that an event like this allows students to become familiar with the staff of the Plainsview Credit Union outside of their normal workday 'context'.
“It's good for the students to get to know these people outside of the bank building. This kind of thing allows kids to see that the Credit Union is a business run by people. And, these people are also part of the Kipling community.â€
She adds that the students appreciate the tremendous effort that an event like this involves.
“There's 400 students enrolled in Kipling School. So, I was told that the Plainsview staff had decided to be ready to feed 500 people, so that all the staff at the school could have a burger as well. That takes a tremendous amount of effort. The students and staff all really appreciate everything that the people at Plainsview have done to make this happen.â€Â
