Culture Days, a federal initiative, were celebrated at the Allen Sapp Gallery by allowing visitors to have a peek at a part of the gallery that’s never been open to the public before – the vault. Curator Marcus Miller said he’s tried to open the vault in other galleries he’s worked in, but the idea was always turned down, so he was pleased to finally succeed. “I’m a nerd, maybe, but I’ve always gotten a kick out of looking in the vaults,” he said. Items in the vault included early paintings by Sapp, interviews and history put on recordable laser videodiscs by the late Dr. Gonor and other gems. Guided tours of the current exhibit, Inspired by the Land, were also available, and the opportunity was capitalized on by a group of over 30 students from the University of Saskatchewan.
