North Battleford Bonaventure Lions recently awarded prizes in their annual Peace Poster Contest. Each year Lions clubs from around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for children encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. The theme for the 2014-15 contest is “Peace, Love and Understanding.” Local winners were chosen from entries submitted by students from St. Vital School and Battleford Central School. Bonaventure Lions members presenting the awards are June Newsham and Gladys Pickett St. Vital winners are Shayna Taylor (first), Sydney Winterhalt (third) and Danae Shein (second). Shayna’s entry was also selected as the first place winner at the district level. Her poster, and that of Angelaya Tracksell of Borden School, which placed second, will have their posters entered at the next level, which includes entries from Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Â鶹ÊÓƵ Dakota.
