REGINA - The riding of Regina Elphinstone-Centre has been all New Democrats since its inception back in 2003.
The NDP has won five straight times in Regina Elphinstone-Centre and now looks for their sixth straight win in the riding. NDP candidate Meara Conway is running for the seat again, as she won the Regina Elphinstone-Centre seat in 2020.
Conway served as the NDP’s ethics and democracy critic during her previous term. Conway is also a mother, lawyer, community leader and musician.
In the 2020 riding election for Regina Elphinstone-Centre, Conway and the NDP won by a large margin, receiving 61 per cent of the votes. Coming in second place in the election was the Saskatchewan Party, with 27 per cent of the votes.
Caesar Khan was the candidate for the Sask Party in 2020 for Regina Elphinstone-Centre, and he’s running again, hoping to take down the NDP for the first time in the riding.
Khan is a business man and active in promoting Saskatchewan products on the global job market. He lives in Regina with his wife and daughter.
While the NDP and Sask Party have been fighting for years to claim Regina Elphinstone-Centre, a new party is entering the race.
The Saskatchewan United Party, formed in 2022, is sending candidate Pamela Carpenter to steal the riding. Carpenter owns The Bannock House in Regina, which serves food to the residents of Regina.
Saskatchewan Progress Party candidate Nathan Bruce works as a waste-management engineer, and graduated from University of Regina with Masters of Applied Science. He is an advocate for expanding public sector services across the board. Nathan believes Saskatchewan needs a party that will fight for improved labour rights in modern workplaces, and which is committed to democratic election reforms.
Carpenter has previous experience representing a union and employees. She is a mother of three children.
The last party in the running for Regina Elphinstone-Centre is the Saskatchewan Green Party. Naomi Hunter represented the Sask Green Party in the 2020 election, but a new face is taking over for the riding.
Jim Elliott is running for the 2024 Regina Elphinstone-Centre riding. Elliott has past experience working for numerous environmental groups and organizations, including Friends of the Regina Public Library and Al Ritchie Community Association. He currently resides in downtown Regina.
These four candidates will fight for Regina Elphinstone-Centre in the provincial election on Oct. 28.
