SaskPower alerts customers to an email scam

SaskPower has been made aware of an email scam targeting its customers.

WEYBURN – SaskPower has been made aware of an email scam targeting its customers.

The fraudulent email (which appears to be from MySaskPower) states that the customer has an unpaid bill and demands payment immediately or face disconnection.

The email also has links encouraging customers log into their MySaskPower account or to submit a credit card payment online. These links direct customers to external websites aimed at obtaining personal and credit card information.

If anyone has clicked a link in one of these fraudulent emails and provided their credit card information, they should contact their card issuer immediately and report it.

Only customers signed up for a MySaskPower account will receive billing notices. The utility advises they do not threaten disconnection for non-payment through an email.

SaskPower offers the following tips and information to protect customers from falling victim to scam attempts:

• Always double check the sender’s email address – the display name may appear something legitimate, but the email address should be from @saskpower.com

• SaskPower does not threaten disconnection through an email for non-payment

• SaskPower will never ask for payment via e-transfer, gift cards, or bitcoin

• When in doubt, call SaskPower Customer Care at 1-888-757-6937 to confirm the communication is legitimate.
