SASKATOON – A 19-year-old Alberta man has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving following a collision Thursday morning.

Shortly before 7 a.m., Saskatoon police were called to the area of 29th Street West and Avenue H North for a report of a collision. When they arrived, they saw two heavily damaged vehicles, an SUV and a truck. Their preliminary investigation found that the truck had been travelling northbound on Avenue H North when it was struck at a high rate of speed by the westbound SUV that failed to stop at a stop sign. The SUV then narrowly missed colliding with a parked vehicle and a house before coming to a stop on a nearby front lawn, said police.

The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics before being medically released. The driver of the SUV had sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The continued police investigation found that the driver of the SUV was displaying signs consistent with impairment. He was placed under arrest before being transported to hospital by paramedics where a blood demand was then made.
