Saskatoon Fire Department puts out campfire set by homeless

Firefighters walked in and used their water backpacks to fully extinguish the fire.

SASKATOON – Saskatoon firefighters used water backpacks to extinguish a campfire that was set by a homeless person near the Old Sanatorium site south of the 1300 Block of Avenue K Â鶹ÊÓƵ on Wednesday.

A Saskatoon Fire Department Inspector arrived at the site that wasn’t occupied at the time but a smouldering fire involving a tent and clothing was identified.

The area was heavily treed and not easily accessible. A brush truck was dispatched to ensure the smouldering fire didn't get out of control.

Fire crews arrived to the site and walked in to the fire.  Firefighters used their water backpacks to fully extinguish the fire. Some vegetation, a tent and its contents were damaged by fire.

There were no injuries and the burnt contents and structure were removed from the area.
