SURREY, B.C. – A Saskatchewan man accused of attempting to shoot a loaded handgun towards a British Columbia crowd near a Metro Vancouver SkyTrain Station will remain in custody until his trial in May 2024.

Kevin Richard Petit, who is from North Battleford, was arrested in February 2022 and released on bail two months later. He was re-arrested for breach of conditions and his bail was revoked in February 2023.

He was charged following an incident on Feb. 24, 2022, when Metro Vancouver Transit Police say they were called to the Surrey Central SkyTrain Station at 11:45 a.m. They say Petit was standing outside a convenience store, across the street from the transit station, and was about to shoot a Glock handgun when bystanders and the store owner tackled him to the ground.

When transit police officers arrived, Petit had freed himself and was running away. Police chased Petit on foot and arrested him behind a neighbouring business. A loaded Glock 19 handgun was found inside his waistband.
