KEY LAKE FIRST NATION – . Kamsack RCMP responded to a report of an armed man in a Key Lake First Nation home around 2:35 p.m. on Jan. 25.
“The male had already left the residence when they [officers] arrived and further investigation determined he was in another residence in the community,” said RCMP in a media release.
The Critical Incident Response Team provided assistance, and police were able to contain the home and negotiate with the man. He surrendered to police just before 9 p.m.
“Officers executed a search warrant at the residence, located and seized a firearm,” said RCMP.
Lyman Papequash, 60, of Key Lake First Nation, was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, enter a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, resist/obstruct a peace officer, unlicensed possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and failure to comply with a release order condition.
Papequash is scheduled to appear in Kamsack court on Feb. 2 on these charges, and the investigation into this matter is continuing.
