Police find firearms hidden in wall, others buried outside in snow

The search was part of an initiative in Pelican Narrows where La Ronge RCMP Crime Reduction Team and Pelican Narrows detachment teamed up.

PELICAN NARROWS  – Police found firearms hidden in a wall of a home and others buried in the snow outside after they raided a residence on Pine Drive in Pelican Narrows on Dec. 18.

During the search, police seized about 2.5 grams of cocaine and a gram of methamphetamine, both divided up into small packages, as well as an air soft rifle, a shotgun, two sawed-off shotguns, a rifle, ammunition and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

The search was part of a community safety enforcement initiative in Pelican Narrows from Dec. 15 to 19, where Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and Pelican Narrows detachment teamed up. Eight wanted people were arrested.

The enforcement initiative included proactive patrols and traffic stops, as well as searching for wanted people and executing search warrants in relation to ongoing weapons and drug trafficking investigations.

“Over five days, officers arrested eight wanted individuals, and took cocaine and methamphetamine packaged for sale, firearms and other weapons off the streets,” said Sgt. Ryan Davies from La Ronge CRT. “Dangerous drugs and weapons have no place in Pelican Narrows – or any community. Frontline Saskatchewan RCMP detachment officers and specialized units like CRT will continue to work together to arrest those who choose to bring these safety risks into our communities.”

Following the search on Pine Drive, police arrested three men at the home.

Colton Bighetty, 27, and Ovide Michel, 25, both from Pelican Narrows, along with Brett Michel, 27, from The Pas, Manitoba, are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and firearms-related charges.

They appeared in court in Pelican Narrows on Dec. 19.

On Dec. 16, officers located and seized several knives and machetes, bear mace, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a small amount of methamphetamine during a search warrant execution at a home on Linklater Street.

A 20-year-old man from Pelican Narrows was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was also arrested on a warrant for failing to attend court. He is scheduled to appear in court in Pelican Narrows on Feb. 6, 2024. Two other men and a youth female were also arrested on outstanding warrants at the residence.

On Dec. 17, police seized about 53 small bags of methamphetamine, trafficking paraphernalia, a sawed-off shotgun, an airsoft gun and ammunition after a search warrant was executed at a home on McKay Road.

Two men, a woman, and a female youth, all from Pelican Narrows, are each charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and five firearms-related charges. The youth is also charged with failing to comply with an undertaking condition. They appeared in court in Pelican Narrows on Dec. 19.
