SASKATOON — Several witnesses who stopped to help at the scene of a fatal crash Friday are being recognized by Saskatoon police for their commendable efforts. Unfortunately, the driver they were attempting help didn’t survive.

Members of the Collision Analyst Unit are investigating a collision that resulted in the death of a 44-year-old man on May 10, at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Police say they responded to multiple reports of a single-vehicle collision on Circle Drive North near Attridge Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed a heavily damaged semi-truck that had overturned and was smoking.

The driver of the truck remained trapped inside and multiple civilians who had witnessed the collision were attempting to gain access to the passenger compartment.

Members of the Saskatoon Fire Department arrived and extricated the driver from the semi-truck before he was transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services West in life-threatening condition. He was pronounced deceased a short time later. Next of kin notifications have been completed and police will not be releasing the victim’s name.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing with support from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
