PRINCE ALBERT – A 16-year-old male faces charges in three incidents, including a sexual assault of a female youth and numerous weapons-related offences.
The youth, who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal justice Act, has been charged with sexual assault, assault, and uttering against a 14-year-old girl.
On April 9, Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) say they got a report of the sexual assault and threats.
On April 11, a home in Prince Albert was checked in an attempt to arrest the 16-year-old suspect for sexual assault. The suspect was in the community on a Release Order with conditions to reside at an address in Prince Albert, abide by a curfew, and to not possess ammunition or firearms. He had been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, tampering with a serial number, possession of weapons contrary to order, and unsafe storage of firearms from an incident that occurred on Feb. 20.
The residence check revealed the 16-year-old male was not adhering to his court ordered conditions. He was charged with breach of release order and a warrant for his arrest was requested.
On April 12, in another incident, the 16-year-old male was charged with numerous weapons offences after police were called to the 300 block of 12th Street East for a report of a male breaking into vehicles at about 4:48 a.m.
Patrol members located a suspect who was observed to be carrying a firearm. When challenged by police, the suspect dropped the firearm and fled on foot.
Police members located and arrested the suspect in the 500 block of 10th Street East. A sawed-off shotgun and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered. The suspect, a 16-year-old male, was charged with several offences including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, tampering with a serial number, possession of firearm and ammunition while prohibited, and breach of release order
Once in custody, the identity of the 16-year-old male was confirmed and was held in custody on all three incidents. He made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on April 12.
