NORTH BATTLEFORD – Police seized two semi-automatic .22 calibre rifles and arrested five people following a traffic stop.
On March 29, North Battleford RCMP members initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on the Highway 16 Bypass in North Battleford. The vehicle was stopped for a minor traffic infraction. During a search of the vehicle, officers found two semi-automatic .22 calibre rifles, one being an assault-style rifle and the other being sawed-off, making the rifle prohibited to possess. North Battleford Municipal General Investigation Section assisted with the investigation.
Police charged 19-year-old Trevor Auger of Edmonton, 20-year-old Brook Swiftwolfe of North Battleford, 19-year-old Ayla Anderson of Edmonton, 23-year-old Darcy Cattleman of Calgary, and 24-year-old Earl Swiftwolfe of Moosomin First Nation, were charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, possession a weapon dangerous, and unlawful storage of a firearm.
Auger was additionally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, fraudulent personation of an individual, obstruction of a police officer, and three counts of failing to comply with conditions.
Brook Swiftwolfe was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, mischief under $5,000, assaulting a police officer, and resisting a police officer.
Anderson was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.
Cattleman was additionally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Earl Swiftwolfe was additionally charged with fraudulent personation of an individual, mischief under $5,000, uttering, and unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.
All five appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court March 30.
