SASKATOON – A Georgian national described by Saskatoon police as a known affiliate of the Russian mafia asked a Saskatoon court April 1 to delay his sentencing.

Alex Alexide, after speaking with his family following his guilty plea March 26 to fraud- and identity-related offences, now wants to speak to his immigration lawyer, court heard.

He appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday by CCTV from a correctional centre. A new sentencing date is expected to be scheduled on April 10.

Alexide was arrested by Saskatoon Police Service Economic Crime Section at a home in the 400 block of Pendygrasse Road on May 14, 2023. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of multiple false and forged documents.

In July 2016, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement issued a media release saying they had deported Alexide, a "documented Russian mafia associate," to Canada to face criminal charges. At the time he was wanted in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario for theft, identity fraud, false documentation and other charges, between 2013–2015. He was using the alias of Alex Row, and ICE confirmed his real identity with Canadian authorities through photos and biometric data.

In May 2015, Alexidze was arrested in Cleveland. He was later convicted on federal charges of fraudulent statements and visa fraud and served nine months in jail, according to ICE.
