Man facing murder charges in woman's death on Yellow Quill First Nation

YELLOW QUILL FIRST NATION - Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit is reporting a man is facing murder charges connected to a woman's death on Yellow Quill First Nation.

On Aug. 18 at approximately 5 p.m., Rose Valley RCMP received a report of an injured person at a home on Yellow Quill First Nation.

Officers immediately responded and located an injured woman. She was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. She has been identified as 24-year-old Terrance Tony-Kishayinew from Yellow Quill First Nation.

A man was arrested at the scene in relation to her death.

After investigating, police determined the man had allegedly assaulted a second adult individual, who did not report injuries to police.

As a result of continued investigation, 26-year-old Cole Smokeyday, from Yellow Quill First Nation, is charged with second-degree murder; assault; and uttering threats.

He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Aug. 20.
