BALGONIE – Ask any firefighter about tackling a large-scale event, and they will tell you mutual aid is a crucial resource. This teamwork came into play just after 9 pm on Jan. 13 as a shop fire outside Balgonie saw four departments respond.
“At the peak we had 24 personnel, three pumpers, two tankers, and five support vehicles on scene,” said the Balgonie Volunteer Fire Department on a social media post. “We were on scene for around five hours and everyone was back in their home community by 2 am.”
Assisting the Balgonie crew were firefighters from the Emerald Park Fire Department, White City Volunteer Fire Department and the Pilot Butte Fire Department.
It is unknown at this time what caused the fire or the estimated material loss, but nobody was injured as a result of the blaze.
