CANOE LAKE – Police are investigating after shots were fired at two homes in Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.
Beauval RCMP say they responded at about 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 27. Police believe the incidents were random. There were no injuries.
As a result of investigation, Beauval RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team arrested two people without incident at a home on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation just before noon. Officers also seized a restricted firearm, ammunition and other weapons at the residence.
Harold Cardinal, 31, from Canoe Lake Cree First Nation and Mary Daigneault, 25, from Ila a la Crosse are charged with discharging a firearm while being reckless, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of ammunition while prohibited, possession of a firearm without a firearms licence, and improper storage of a firearm. Cardinal is also charged with faILING to comply with a probation order.
They appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Sept. 28, 2023.
As a result of their continued investigation, Beauval RCMP have also charged 24-year-old Marissa McCallum from Jan’s Bay and 32-year-old Shannon Opikokew from Canoe Narrows each with discharging a firearm while being reckless. Warrants have been issued for their arrests and Beauval RCMP are working to locate them.
McCallum is also wanted for breaching a conditional sentence order.
Marissa McCallum is 5-foot-6 with a medium build. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Opikokew is approximately 5-foot-7 and 145 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
