Battlefords RCMP find loaded semi-auto firearm during traffic stop

BATTLEFORDS – Three people face weapons-related charges after police found a loaded and semi-automatic firearm with a high capacity magazine in the back of the car during a traffic stop.

Battlefords RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) stopped the vehicle for speeding on Mosquito, Grizzly Bear's Head, Lean Man First Nation on Dec. 13.

Perry Wuttunee, 35, Tyrone Paskimin, 31, and Darian Whitford, 22, all from Red Pheasant First Nation, were arrested.

Wuttunee, the driver, initially resisted but was also taken into custody. He is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and firearms-related offences.

Whitford is charged with nine-firearms related offences and Paskimin is charged with 10 firearms-related charges.

They appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Dec. 15.
