REGINA - A 24-year-old man is facing a charge of assault with a weapon after a taxi cab driver was threatened with a knife on Dec. 5.

Police were called to the 2300 block of Ottawa Street shortly before 5:30 a.m. for a report that a taxi cab driver was threatened with a knife. When officers arrived, they met with the victim who remained on scene.

The driver told police that a male passenger threatened him with a knife while discussing payment. The passengers then left the vehicle and went into a nearby residence.

As police were speaking with the driver, a male, unknown to the driver, approached them and offered payment for the ride. A short time later, a second male came out of the home and approached the group. He confirmed to officers that he had just taken the cab to that address so officers arrested him and charged him with assault with a weapon.

He makes his first appearance in Regina court Jan. 25, 2024.
