New cases of COVID-19 continue to be found throughout Manitoba, including the north - but fewer cases were found Tuesday than in recent days.
Manitoba reported 102 net new active cases, with 12 of those cases within the Northern Health Region (NHR). The province reported 103 cases, but one of the cases was found within a different province.
Four of the new cases have been listed as "unknown district" cases, typically cases where the person is tested and currently resides in a different district. These cases have not been confirmed to be related to an ongoing outbreak at the Keeyask generating station near Gillam, where as many as 31 people have tested positive according to First Nations groups. The outbreak has been tied to a worker from Winnipeg, who travelled north to work while asymptomatic and tested positive for COVID-19 while at the facility. Within the NHR, 24 people are listed as active cases within an "unknown district".
Another four new cases have been found in The Pas/OCN/Kelsey health district, the area of the north with the most current active cases. Seventy-one people are currently ill in the district. Two new cases in Cross Lake/Pimicikamak have also been reported, making it 34 active cases within the community.Â
No new cases were found either the Thompson/Mystery Lake or Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon districts Tuesday.
One new case was reported in each of the Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin, Lynn Lake/Marcel Colomb/Leaf Rapids/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin/Granville and Sayisi Dene/Tadoule Lake/Barren Lands/Brochet/Northlands/Lac Brochet districts. At least one of these cases was moved from a previous district.
No new possible public exposures have been reported in northern Manitoba.
Within the province as a whole, five more people have died from COVID-19 in Winnipeg - a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 80s, two men in their 80s and a man in his 90s. One of men in his 80s was tied to an ongoing outbreak at the Winnipeg-area Maples personal care home, while the other four have not been tied to previous outbreaks.
The five-day test positivity rate has dropped to 8.6 per cent in Manitoba, with a higher 9.3 per cent test positivity rate in Winnipeg. Throughout Manitoba, 3,495 cases of COVID-19 are currently active, with 130 people in hospital and 20 of those people in intensive care. During the pandemic, 6,377 Manitobans have tested positive, with 85 deaths.
Outbreaks have been declared at the Fred Douglas Lodge personal care home, the Seine River retirement home and the transitional care unit at Misericordia Health Centre, each in Winnipeg.
