Manitoba's COVID-19 situation appears to be dying down. One new case of the disease was reported by provincial authorities, along with one recovered person - and no new cases have been reported in the north since April 7.

The newest numbers came from the province's daily disease briefing May 2, bringing Manitoba's total number of reported cases to 280 while maintaining 38 active cases of the disease. Six people have died from COVID-19 in Manitoba during the outbreak. Another six people are hospitalized in Manitoba with COVID-19 symptoms.

No new cases have been reported in the Northern Health Regiona (NHR) since April 7. The number of total cases reported within the NHR has remained at three ever since.

The home communities of the infected people are still officially unconfirmed - while some cases of the disease have been confirmed individually by family members, provincial and regional officials have refused to divulge that information at any point during the outbreak.

One case reported in the north was confirmed independently to have affected a Flin Flon resident. No community spread related to that case has been reported.

A Hudbay employee and several coworkers were sent home at the company's Lalor mine last month under suspicion of having COVID-19 - all were confirmed negative and went back to work following a self-isolation period.

The Manitoba government has announced the reopening of several services and types of business previously deemed non-essential May 2. Travel restrictions to northern Manitoba will continue past the reopening date.

Since the outbreak began, over 26,000 tests have taken place within Manitoba.
