Reporting to the Manager, Academic and Research and working under the general direction of the Associate Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies (AVP-RGS), the Research Outreach Officer supports the research and innovation infrastructure of the University, assisting in implementing the Research Strategic Plan. The Research Outreach Officer promotes existing sources of funding, facilitates new grants and partnerships, and implements action plans directly linked to the institutional academic and strategic plans.

The individual will work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment, ensuring that their actions directly impact two main metrics pertaining to the Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA3), Tri-Council funding and Private Sector funding for research and innovation.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach and Promotions (75%)

Liaise with full-time faculty, part-time faculty, administration, staff, and graduate students to maintain a database of current university research
Investigate and promote existing and new funding opportunities for researchers
Promote award announcements, and research awareness on our website, newsletter and social media platforms
Organize and coordinate research-related events on campus
Organize and coordinate workshops for training and development opportunities for researchers.
Assist researchers with their research proposals and in coordinating meetings and correspondence with collaborators
Assist the AVP-RGS and Grant Facilitator in liaising with industry and community partners
Liaise with external funders and internal applicants throughout the application process
Liaise with faculty and students on research opportunities for graduate and undergraduates
Support the development and implementation of a research mentorship program for interested faculty and students
Coordinate I-EDI support for researchers with their grant applications and research programs
Coordinate internal proposal submission deadlines (for RAC review) and ensure submission to the appropriate agencies by their deadlines
Serve as point of contact for faculty and community partners, answering general inquiries and tracking follow-up
Implement improvements and maintain the Research webpage
General Research Administration (15%)

Track and maintain research activity; faculty publications, grant applications, awards and community partners.
Assist the Research Officer with all internal competitions, including sending calls to faculty, receiving and organizing applications, preparing for RAC review and notification of awards
Liaise with various areas of the university to support research opportunities and partnerships
Assist in the development of Undergraduate & Graduate Student research activities including outreach & engagement.
Other Duties (10%)

Assist with Research Advisory Committee meetings
Provide back-up to the Research Officer
Other duties as assigned


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Effort

Minimal: Extended periods of sitting and working at a desk with a computer; some mobility required for meeting and event coordination and execution

Physical Environment

Minimal: General office environment. Minimal exposure to unpleasant/disagreeable conditions.

Moderate: Moderate need for detailed/precise work to be completed while accommodating regular interruptions in an administrative environment

Moderate: Moderate mental stress; regular office hours with occasional variation due to events, occasional pressure due to deadlines.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Undergraduate degree in business or a relevant field and a Minimum (4) four years experience working in an academic office setting are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Knowledge of funding priorities and opportunities and experience supporting research management in a post-secondary setting is required
Familiarity with Indigenous CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics), OCAP (Ownership, control, access, and possession) and UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) principles would be an asset
Excellent written communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the university professionally in interactions [with internal stakeholders and/or external communities]
Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to take initiative and prioritize work in a high volume office
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work independently
Understanding of and ability to uphold strict confidential regulations as per university policy
Excellent use of technology for collaboration; strong computer skills; G-Suite knowledge preferred
Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment
Innovative problem-solver

Salary Scale: $60,471 to $75,589 annually.
